NeedleDesk

Needle system comes before needle style.

A denim, stretch, or embroidery needle can still be the wrong physical system for a machine. This index helps you recognize common codes and find verified model examples; it does not turn similar labels into universal compatibility.

United Kingdom edition. UK-facing product listings may spell the second size value simply “Size.” System names and codes below remain unchanged. UK terminology and label notes.

130/705 H · HAx1 · 15x1Many household lockstitch machines; some overlocks may specify itSCHMETZ identifies 130/705 H as its Universal household system. WAWAK groups 130/705, HAx1, and 15x1 as home-machine labels. Confirm the exact code in your own manual.Manufacturer / supplier reference; not a machine model match
ELx705 / ELx705 CF / SY 2022Some household overlock and coverlock machinesSCHMETZ says the ELx705 SUK CF family is for machines whose instructions specify ELx705, ELx705 CF, ELx705 CR, or SY 2022. The second groove is part of its chainstitch design. These codes are not interchangeable by brand alone.Manufacturer family statement; model manual still controls
DBx1Some industrial lockstitch machinesWAWAK’s selection guide notes a shank-size change after DBx1 size 18. Do not carry a thread-size range across the boundary unless the machine manufacturer confirms the system and shank.Supplier chart; verify with machine maker
135x17 / 135x16Some industrial and heavy-duty machinesWAWAK describes them as the same system with different point treatment: 135x16 is a leather point and 135x17 is available in multiple points. Check that the machine explicitly accepts the system.Supplier chart; exact model match absent
Other / unknown codeVintage, specialty, multi-needle, or unlisted equipmentRecord the complete manual code and model. The tool may offer material or thread-size clues, but will not assert physical fit from appearance or an online forum match.Unresolved until a model source is available
Do not collapse point type, size, and system.

WAWAK’s needle-selection guide separates these three decisions. A “90/14” size alone does not identify the shank, length, point, groove, or a machine’s allowable range.

Why the guide supports more than one certainty level.

Competitors show two useful patterns: exact machine pages can connect models to manuals, needle systems, and nearby parts; a system catalog can index cross-machine relationships. We use those patterns as product research, not as evidence to copy their data. Our record labels distinguish a maker statement, a supplier chart, community observation, and an unknown.

A Reddit request for a DBx1 topstitch/thread chart specifically reported confusion between industrial and household needles. Its replies also discuss thread eye size and machine limits. Those comments identify the problem; the actual combination still needs manufacturer or supplier documentation.
